The cork material we use to create our products comes from the bark of the cork oak trees. These trees grown majorly in the Mediterranean region of Europe - Portugal, Spain, Italy, France. For centuries, cork cultivation has been a family heritage in these regions. The harvesting process ensures that no tree is ever harmed. The cultivators strip the bark of the trees, allowing them to regenerate over the next nine years. Harvested cork trees absorb 3-5 times more CO2 than non-harvested trees, meaning the cork trees in Portugal alone help offset 10 million tons of carbon each year.
Cork is not only natural, but also water-resistant, anti-fungal, incredibly lightweight and flexible, strong and durable. With its softness and versatility, it's no wonder cork is known as nature's leather. Its porous structure not only makes it feather-light, but also gives it a beautiful texture that is so unique to the material.
The Hemp and Nettle comes from the Himalayan region in India. They do not require any harmful pesticides and are 100% organically cultivated. They also use 400 times lesser water than cotton crops, and grow a lot faster. They’re quickly renewable. Hemp is also one of the strongest natural fibres known to man.
In most ways, cork, hemp and nettle are pretty low maintenance. Because of their anti-fungal nature, they remain unaffected by moisture and humidity. Additionally, cork is naturally water proof. However, a simple wash with a mild cleansing solutions will do the trick and help you maintain your product. Do NOT wash any of the metal fittings
